QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will hold a high school diploma or equivalent; additional training or coursework in facility management, operations, or a related field is highly desirable. Candidates should have prior experience in custodial services, with demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential, as is a working knowledge of custodial practices, cleaning tools, OSHA regulations, and workplace safety protocols. Proficiency in basic computer systems and scheduling or maintenance software is also required. A valid driver’s license is necessary, and candidates must successfully complete all required background checks.

 

DESCRIPTION

The Manager of Custodial Services is responsible for overseeing custodial operations across all school facilities within the division. This role ensures that all schools and buildings are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition that supports teaching, learning, and community engagement. The manager supervises custodial staff, organizes daily operations, develops standardized cleaning protocols, and works closely with maintenance, administration, and security teams to promote a healthy, welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Additionally, this role includes team-building, problem-solving, and planning functions that align with the school division’s strategic priorities.

 

GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)

SUPERVISION

The Manager of Custodial Services reports directly to the Director of Operations or designee and provides supervision to all custodial staff throughout the school division.

 

WORK CONDITIONS

The role requires both indoor and outdoor work across multiple school sites and administrative buildings. The position may involve exposure to cleaning agents, fluctuating temperatures, and physical activity such as lifting or moving equipment. The manager must be available for occasional evening, weekend, or emergency response duties as operational needs arise. Regular travel between sites within the division is required.
