QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate must have at least a high school diploma. They must possess a good knowledge of, or the ability to quickly learn and understand, child growth and development as it relates to the position. The candidate should be able to implement departmental plans for activities, follow written and oral instructions, assist in program implementation, and participate in monitoring and ensuring appropriate behaviors. Effective communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. The candidate must demonstrate considerable patience and the ability to work effectively with children, young adults, and other stakeholders. Strong organizational, human relations, and communication skills are also required.
DESCRIPTION
The Part-time Youth Assistant performs a variety of support tasks which assist the After School Program Administrator and Youth Coordinator in planning and conducting after school activities and programs for Hopewell Students.
GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)
- Assists with the supervision of all participants and activities organized by The ‘WELL, including in-house activities, field trips, and other activities.
- Assists with planning and conducting activities for the well, including promotion, marketing, distributing and collecting materials, advertising, set up and clean up, etc.
- Models and promotes positive behaviors and social interactions.
- Builds relationships with youth to nurture strengths and promote healthy social and emotional growth of participants.
- Assists with providing a safe environment by monitoring and supervising all youth during arrival and departure.
- Helps maintain order and assists in managing the behavior of the youth, including crisis prevention, restorative justice and other social emotional techniques.
- Develops and implements intervention strategies designed to improve the social skills and academic performance of youth.
- Encourages community and stakeholder involvement activities.
- Assists in planning and implementing monthly calendars and events, to include gaming tournaments, sports tournaments, etc.
- Creates flyers and other marketing tools to distribute for extracurricular activities that the organization hosted by The 'Well.
- Performs any other related work duties as assigned or required to improve and maintain the daily function and success of The 'Well.
SUPERVISION
Work is performed under direct supervision of the After School Program Administrator and the Youth Coordinator.
WORK CONDITIONS
Work requires continuous standing, walking, and may require lifting. Work may involve exposure to risks associated with students in heightened emotional states. Employees will be required to perform emergency and non-emergency health-related services for the students to which the Employee is assigned.
WORK HOURS
- Weekday hours
- Mondays, Wednesdays, HHS days (shifts may vary depending on student need)
- 3:00 pm-8:00 pm or 3:30 pm -8:30 pm
- Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, CGW days (shifts may vary depending on student need)
- 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm or 2:30 pm-7:30 pm
- Intersession Hours vary Monday-Friday anytime between 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (min. 5 hour shifts)
- Summer Hours Vary Monday-Friday anytime between 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (min. 5 hour shifts)
- Must be available to work nights and some weekends for special events
- 25 - 29 hours per week, except on special occasions, with approval
- Must be able to meet every week on Wednesday for mandatory staff meetings at 1:30 PM
