QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate must have at least a high school diploma or GED equivalent. A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required. Experience working with children, particularly in a transportation or school setting, is preferred. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to follow written and oral instructions is essential. Basic knowledge of vehicle operation and maintenance is advantageous. Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
DESCRIPTION
The School Bus Aide and Van Driver will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school and other school-related activities. This role involves assisting students during boarding and disembarking, monitoring student behavior during transit, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. The individual will also operate a school van for transporting smaller groups of students as needed.
GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)
- Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus or van, ensuring their safety.
- Monitor student behavior during transit, addressing any issues promptly and appropriately.
- Provide support to students with special needs, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Maintain a clean and organized bus or van environment.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure it is in good working condition.
- Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to the appropriate authorities.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding transportation-related matters.
- Follow all traffic laws and school transportation policies to ensure safe operation of the vehicle.
- Assist with emergency drills and procedures to ensure student safety in case of an incident.
- Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel usage, and any incidents or disciplinary actions.
- Performs related duties as required.
SUPERVISION
Work is performed under the direction of the Supervisor of Transportation.
WORK CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is primarily performed in a school bus or van environment. The role requires sitting for extended periods while driving and standing or walking when assisting students. The position may involve exposure to various weather conditions while boarding and disembarking students. The candidate must be able to lift and assist students as needed, and handle emergency situations calmly and effectively. Regular hours are typically aligned with school schedules, with occasional opportunities for additional school events or special activities.
