QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate’s qualifications may vary based on background and tutoring subject area. Tutors may include licensed/current teachers, retired teachers, aspiring teachers, paraprofessionals, and other interested individuals.  An understanding of elementary and/or secondary school curriculum and teaching methods, or a willingness to learn, is required.  Excellent communication skills and ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds and to follow the direction of school administrators and/or lead teachers is needed. Patience, empathy, and enthusiasm for teaching and learning is necessary.

 

DESCRIPTION

The Elementary School Tutor is responsible for providing targeted academic support to elementary school students (kindergarten-5th grade) in various subject areas. This role is geared to reinforce foundational skills, foster a positive attitude toward learning, and help students achieve their academic potential, while having a focus on individualized instruction, positive reinforcement, and effective communication with teachers and parents.

SUPERVISION

Tutors work under the supervision of School Administration.

 

WORK CONDITIONS

Duties performed are typically in a school setting.  Performs professional work providing support to students for assigned department/program. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking, and light lifting.  Some assignments are subject to deadlines inherent in tailoring and delivering programs to meet the needs of diverse groups.

HOURLY RATE

$30/hour or $50/hour based on credentials
