Algebra Tutor Job Description

 

Algebra Tutors teach middle school and high school students how to comprehend their math coursework, complete math homework, and prepare for math tests. 

 

Math Tutor Duties and Responsibilities

 

Algebra Tutors perform varied daily tasks based on how many students they tutor. Core duties associated with this job include the following:

 

Meet and Motivate Students - Meet with students regularly to discuss and go over Algebra coursework. Throughout this process, Tutors offer encouragement and support to keep students motivated and ready to learn.

Assist with Homework - Assist students with homework, teaching them how to perform the calculations needed to complete their assignments. Tutors also teach students basic classroom skills such as note-taking, studying, and test-taking.

Teach Mathematical Processes - Teach students various mathematical concepts, processes, and computations.

Prep Students for Tests - Prep students for tests by providing sample questions and showing them how to find the solutions.

Take Attendance - Keep records of student attendance. These are submitted along with timesheets for pay.

Student Progress - Communicate individual student progress to his/her Algebra Teacher on a regular basis. Communication with the Teacher may result in the use of different resources and strategies to meet each student’s needs.

 

Algebra Tutor Skills and Qualifications

 

Algebra Tutors have an excellent command of Algebra. They use strong communication skills to share this knowledge and to motivate and instruct students. Key skills are as follows.

 

Knowledge of Algebra - Excellent personal understanding of Algebra concepts and skills.

Communication Skills – Excellent verbal communication skills to simplify complex topics so they are easier for students to understand.

Time Management – Good time management skills to cover specific subject matter with students within an allotted amount of time.

Computer Skills – Basic computer skills are essential. 

Interpersonal Skills – Ability to interact with students of all levels of learning. Commitment to find ways to help students grasp mathematics concepts.

Education - Associate or bachelor’s degree and/or teaching experience is preferred.

 Salary/Hourly Rate: $30.00/hour
