QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for this position should have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Technology or a related field. They must hold, or be eligible to obtain, a state teaching certification in Technology Education and pass all pre-employment screenings. Experience or training in teaching engineering, robotics, or other STEM-related courses or programs is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, effectively engaging with students, guardians, and colleagues. Additionally, candidates should show a commitment to ongoing professional development and stay updated on technology trends.

DESCRIPTION

The High School Technology Teacher will teach concepts and standards related to STEM education, including engineering and robotics, using a curriculum approved by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). The teacher will plan lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on learning experiences, ensuring that the instruction aligns with real-world applications and supports all students in becoming college and career-ready.



GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)

  • Utilize the technology education curriculum designated by the Virginia Department of Education and Hopewell City Public Schools to develop lesson plans.
  • Design learning activities to demonstrate the application of technical skills; guide students in selecting projects or experiments, and engage all students in real-world work to optimize learning.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modify instructional methods to fit individual students' needs, including students with special needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Instruct students in the proper and safe use, care, and storage of tools, machines, and equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate student records to include attendance reports, grades, competency records, completer data, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary.
  • Stay up-to-date on developments in technology and incorporate them into lessons.
  • Sponsor after-school technology and robotics clubs/teams.
  • Promote work-based learning, concurrent enrollment, and post-secondary opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other teachers to integrate technology into their subjects and classes.
  • Communicate student progress with parents, school counselors, and administrators.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and professional development activities.
  • Model equitable practices in all activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISION

Work is performed under the direction of the School Principal in conjunction with the Supervisor of Career & Technical Education.

 

WORK CONDITIONS

Duties performed are typically in the school setting with some activities performed off-campus. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking, and light lifting.  Some assignments are subject to deadlines inherent in tailoring and delivering programs to meet the needs of diverse groups. Employees may be required to perform emergency and non-emergency health-related services for students as needed.
