QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate must hold a valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Mathematics, or be eligible. They should possess at least a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field; Master's degree preferred. The candidate must demonstrate proficiency in teaching Algebra 1 and have a strong understanding of mathematical concepts and pedagogy. Prior teaching experience at the middle or high school level is preferred. Additionally, the candidate should exhibit excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to integrate technology into the classroom to enhance learning. A commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with educational best practices and standards is essential.
DESCRIPTION
The High School Algebra 1 Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in Algebra 1 to students, fostering a positive and engaging learning environment, and fostering a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking abilities in students. The teacher will develop lesson plans that align with state standards, assess student progress, and implement instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs. The goal is to help students develop a solid understanding of algebraic concepts and prepare them for higher-level mathematics courses.
GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)
- Develop and implement engaging and standards-aligned math curriculum for high school students, incorporating a variety of instructional strategies and resources.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that meet state standards and the school’s curriculum objectives, and that cater to diverse learning styles and address the needs of all students in the classroom.
- Deliver engaging and effective instruction in Algebra 1, using a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.
- Assess and evaluate student performance through tests, quizzes, homework, and other assignments.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to promote their academic growth and understanding.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, attendance, and grades.
- Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and successes.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and collaborative planning activities.
- Create a positive classroom environment that supports student learning and promotes respect and inclusivity.
- Utilize classroom technology effectively to enhance instruction and student engagement.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including English language learners, students with disabilities, and advanced learners.
- Provide individualized support and enrichment opportunities to ensure that all students are challenged and successful in their mathematical learning.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
SUPERVISION
Work is performed under the supervision of the School Principal and other administrators as appropriate.
WORK CONDITIONS
Duties performed are typically in the school setting. Performs professional work providing support and consultative services for assigned department/program. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking, and light lifting. Some assignments are subject to deadlines inherent in tailoring and delivering programs to meet the needs of diverse groups. Employees may be required to perform emergency and non-emergency health-related services for students as needed.
CONTRACT LENGTH
200 DAYS
The salary for this position applies to candidates who are properly licensed and endorsed in the areas for which they teach.

Associate Teachers serve in full teaching roles while receiving support and guidance as they work toward licensure.
