DESCRIPTION

The Elementary Health and Physical Education Teacher is responsible for delivering comprehensive health and physical education instruction to elementary school students. This role aims to foster healthy habits, physical literacy, and overall well-being among students.

 

GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)

  • Develop and implement health and physical education curriculum aligned with state standards and educational objectives.
  • Teach students fundamental health concepts, including nutrition, hygiene, safety, and personal wellness.
  • Provide instruction in basic motor skills, movement patterns, and physical fitness activities to enhance students' physical literacy.
  • Incorporate cooperative games, team sports, and fitness challenges to promote physical activity and social interaction.
  • Assess student fitness levels, motor skills, and health knowledge using a variety of methods, including fitness assessments, skill tests, and written assignments.
  • Provide feedback and support to students to help them develop healthy habits, improve physical fitness, and make informed choices about their health.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, school nurses, and community partners to promote health education initiatives and wellness programs.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, health education topics, and opportunities for family involvement.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills, explore new instructional strategies, and stay current with health and physical education trends.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISION

Work is performed under the direction of the School Principal.

 

WORK CONDITIONS

This position typically operates in a high school classroom and gymnasium environment. The teacher may be required to stand, walk, and demonstrate physical activities for extended periods. Additionally, the teacher may need to attend after-school events, such as sports games or wellness fairs, as part of their responsibilities.
